Bernard Gibson truly enjoys being a business instructor at Folsom Lake College, part of the Los Rios Community College District. While he has had the opportunity to “do” many things in his life from directing marketing & training programs for Fortune 100 companies to jumping out of perfectly good airplanes to navigating and completing circumvention of the globe, it is “teaching at FLC and the community college level, that churns his water!”Part of his life work is in driving an initiative around interdisciplinary active learning environments for the 21st century. On the topic, Professor Gibson says: “In today’s business world there is a potential gap where businesses desire to have well prepared employees (with the best possible skill-set) entering their organizations and those potentially “new” employees need specific “soft and hard” skills to fill those business opportunities. I have passion in helping build the bridge that exists in this gap!” Community college as an institution is a conduit and fertile ground to “bridge the gaps”. “That said, people are learning differently, in new environments, through technology and under more competitive situations – who is responsible for making these changes, building our knowledge base and making “appreciative” solutions applicable in the workplace – we all are!”
Mr. Gibson had spent 24 years in the private sector while operating at the director and vice-president level in telecommunications, start-ups and with some of the top corporations in the business sector. He has worked, managed and developed business, marketing, and diversity plans effectively with small to medium enterprises (assisting them with development and counseling) to Fortune 100 and federal government operations in the continental U.S., Asia Pacific and parts of Europe.
His leadership, continuous process improvement mentality, training experience and solution based expertise are at the forefront of skills that he can draw upon to assist today’s students, entrepreneurs and learners as they seek to align their skills with high-paced and multi-tasked business minded professional organizations, globally.
Bernard has an MBA from the University of San Francisco and an undergraduate degree from the University of Mississippi in Public Administration. He is a certified facilitator in process improvement and team development as well as a graduate of the Stanford University - Advance Management Program. He is also a certified Achieve Global Facilitator for Supervision and Group Action as well as an advanced trainer and Human Resources specialist for the U.S. Navy.
While an accomplished motivational speaker, Bernard is the owner and principal consultant for GAME Company, a leader in business planning & development, training, marketing consultation and implementing diversity, communication and training effectively in the workplace.
